I have been selling them since 2019 so I know that you can make a lot of money selling Scrunchie Bandanas for my handmade shop, Little Shop Joy.
You can start your bandana business as a hobby without legalizing your business (starting an LLC or DBA – whatever is applicable in your state) but eventually, I would recommend you legalizing your business. It does allow for a lot of tax breaks and deduations (Ask your accountant – not giving any tax advice, just speaking from experience). You can deduct your fabric, sewing machine, scissors, and so much more.
In order to make money, you will need a few things to get started like a scrunchie bandana pattern, sewing equipment (sewing machine and thread) and lots and lots of cute fabric to get you started.
How to start your Dog Bandana Business and Make Money
- Decide on what you want to sell! There are soo many different types of bandanas to choose from: Over the collar, Tie on and my favorite- scrunchie bandanas! Create your own bandana pattern or use one my best selling ones! You can also sell bowties and accessories for dog moms too but I recommend starting with one product at a time so you don’t get overwhelmed!
- Choose a Name for your Brand for your social media accounts. Make sure you pick a name that is available on all platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest. Choose your colors and design your own logo in Canva for free.
- Decide where you want to sell your banadanas. You can set up a shop on Etsy, Shopify, BigCommerce or another selling platform, open your shop and set up your payment methods. Shopify is one of the beginner friendly selling platforms. It’s really easy to design and you can have your shop up in mins!
- Start sewing up a few bandanas. I recommend you sew about 4-6 to start. Take lots of pics and videos of you sewing and creating your inventory. You can later use this on your social media to get more engagement and help bring awareness to your new brand.
- Market and Advertise your Brand NOW – Do NOT wait until you are ready to start selling your bandanas to share your new products or talk about your brand. Show people how to use your products like how to put on a Scrunchie Bandana, tell them why you are starting this adventure, share new fabrics that you have, introduce yourself and your gang, introduce your pup, etc. There are soo many ways to get your brand out there. Just don’t wait until you are ready to make money and start selling bandanas.
- Share, Share, SHARE your products daily. Promote them like crazy on Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest and Facebook so people know you are out there and you exist.
- During all of this, remember to be you. Your products are amazing, people DO want them. They just don’t know about them yet. You can change that.
These are the basic steps to launching your own bandana business. I can tell you that there is no wrong or right way. Just suggestions. However you decide to start it will be amazing. You are amazing. You got this.
