I have been reselling for over a year now mainly on eBay and have made over $20,000. During that time, some of my listings sold super super quick – I mean within minutes to hours of being listed and others took time. I have learned that if your listing lacks in some areas that it will not sell or will take forever to sell. If you have some items that have been sitting there for a while, here’s a few reasons why it hasn’t sold yet.
1. Not in Season
Take a look at your item that isn’t selling to make sure it’s in season. I found this Peanuts Lighted Cinema at a liquidation store. It is a Christmas decor item that I listed in February 2021 and it did now sell until September 2021. I wasn’t really thinking about it being in season and I should have waited til about September/October to list this item but I was just happy that I got it for $6 and could sell it for $84.99
2. Priced too High
eBay is the place that buyers go to get a good deal on an item or to find something rare or totally one of a kind. When listing your item, it’s always best to check the sold recently price. That will give you an idea of what it has been selling for so you can set your price accordingly. Just recently, I had this tractor tune up kit listed for $79.99 for months, and I dropped the price to $49.99 and it sold within 24 hours. Check your prices on your items to make sure it is priced to sell on eBay.
3. No sold history
Does your item have a sold history? Sold histories shows you if there is an ongoing interest for your item. (Not saying that you can’t list an item that hasn’t been sold, you certainly can but the time it will takes to sell may vary more). Listing an item that does not have a sold history is kinda of a gamble on eBay because you don’t know if or when it will start selling again.
4. Lack of Pictures – No Real Pics-
When listing items, your pics really matter. Buyers use pictures to be able to determine the condition of the item and to see if there are any flaws. People want to know what they are getting before they give you their money. They want to be able to clearly see all angles of the product. Your buyer should be able to ‘hold’ it in their hand based on your pictures You should include pics of the product and any kind of packaging and accessories that are included. I have noticed that if your pics suck, it was take long for your listing to sell and/or potential buyers will ask questions about the item that could easily be answered by looking at the pics.
Take a LOT of good pics from all kinds of angles in a plain background in good lighting. No kids. No pets. Nothing. Just the clean background and your product. Try to included at least 4-6 pics in each listing. Stay away from stock pics if you can – stock pics are great but buyer prefer to see what they are actually buying.
5. Item Description Isn’t Convincing Enough-
Buyers do read item descriptions to get an idea or story about the item that you are listing. For example, when I was selling TY Beanie babies – I fully disclosed that the Beanie Babies have not been played with, they have been sitting in a plastic bags in my spare bedroom and comes from a pet/smoke free home. Sharing that kind of information gives potential buyers a story about your item. It allows less room for buyers to assume why you are selling this item and try to understand the condition of it.
6. Title
Is your title accurate? Does it match the item that you have pics of? Does it include the condition of the item? Are you missing some keywords that can get your item found? A good title will include the name of the item, color, condition and model number if applicable. For example, if I was selling an Iphone. The title would say, ‘NEW iPhone 12 Pro Max 128GB Unlocked – Blue. This example includes all of the above to give the buyer an idea of this listing is about
7. Are you listing frequently?
eBay loves active sellers on their platform. They absolutely love when you are constantly listing items and editing your listings. Just like all other platforms, they love when their sellers are adding more items because it keeps them in business. Adding more items regularly helps your other items get more attention and helps increase your sales. If your sales have slowed down a lot, try listing an item or two a day. If you don’t have any new items, end your a listing and add it back to eBay. This is count as a new listing and shows that you are listing new items.
8. Refresh Your Listings
If you have tried the above and your item still hasn’t sold, try refreshing your listings. When I used to work for eBay as Seller Support, I was trained to tell all of our sellers whom sales have slowed down. Refreshing your listings helps bring them to the top of the search results. If you don’t know how to refresh your listings, check out this video that I created to show you how to refresh all your listings in minutes!
